Elevating Corporate Retreats: East Yorkshire’s The Highfield Sets a New Benchmark for Business and Group Events

Luxury country house hotel unveils inspiring event spaces with sustainability and style at their heart
A historic country house on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds is fast becoming one of the UK’s most distinctive destinations for corporate gatherings. The Highfield, recently crowned Remarkable Hotel of the Year, is redefining what it means to host modern business and group events, blending heritage, hospitality and sustainability in a setting that is as inspiring as it is practical.
As businesses increasingly seek purposeful, meaningful places to connect, The Highfield delivers a rare mix of character and contemporary functionality. Set within eight acres of landscaped gardens, this independent luxury hotel is perfectly placed for leadership retreats, planning sessions and company gatherings, just a short distance from York, Hull and the beautiful East Yorkshire coast.
At its heart is the Great Hall, a statement space that balances grandeur with versatility. Original features lend gravitas, while discreet modern updates ensure a seamless fit for today’s business needs (whether that’s a board-level meeting, a dynamic team workshop or a creative strategy session). Events can easily spill out into tranquil garden terraces, giving delegates the chance to recharge in the fresh country air.
“Today’s business and corporate travellers want more than a meeting room…They told us they want an experience that has substance, meaning and a sense of place,” said co-owner and international interior designer, Andy Lampard. “We have been including a passion for design, all things local and sustainability in all that we’ve done so far. If this gives companies the space to connect, think and recharge in surroundings that inspire creativity and collaboration, we’re honoured to be able to provide a space that marries luxury to care.”
Sustainability – a growing priority for MICE organisers – also sits at the core of The Highfield’s ethos. The newly launched resident restaurant, The Mill & Vine, serves seasonal menus crafted from the property’s own kitchen garden and trusted local growers. The result is a dining experience that celebrates Yorkshire’s rich food heritage while championing responsible sourcing and low-impact practices.
And the hotel’s thoughtful design extends to inclusivity and wellbeing.
Co-owner and fellow international interior designer, Lindsey, continues: “We wanted to create spaces with flexible layouts, wellness break options, and informal conversation zones. Ours is a period property, full to the brim with beautiful details and an authentic ‘Yorkshire Welcome’, but it’s important we make it easy to host events that resonate across multigenerational, hybrid teams.
“And, it goes without saying, we are really proud of our newly opened private Quarters Penthouse. It’s one of our favourite spaces at The Highfield, and it even includes our very own art!”
Andy and Lindsey have infused their passion for design and heritage, and have transformed the former merchant house with their distinctive “Merchant Luxury” ethos, a design philosophy rooted in Yorkshire craftsmanship, rich interiors and a spirit of authenticity. The result is a property that feels indulgent yet grounded – a real gem set in beautiful countryside.
