Junsei Brings Izakaya Nights & Listening Bar Culture to Marylebone

Junsei

Junsei, Marylebone’s pioneering yakitori bar, has relaunched with a new identity as one of London’s few Japanese listening bars. Following refurbishment, Junsei now pairs soulful yakitori dining with curated vinyl and late-night Japanese spirits, recreating the intimate after-dark culture of Tokyo’s Izakayas.

Listening Bar: Vinyl, DJs & Izakaya Atmosphere

On Thursday and Friday nights, Junsei transforms into a Hi-Fi listening bar. Guests can enjoy warm vinyl soundscapes – from Japanese City Pop to soulful grooves – alongside yakitori skewers and sake. With its rare blend of food and music culture, Junsei brings a concept celebrated in Tokyo and New York to Marylebone’s dining scene. The late-night licence ensures evenings flow effortlessly, echoing the communal energy of Japan’s after-work Izakayas.

Junsei will continue to collaborate with guest DJs and selectors, expanding its late-night programming and cementing itself as a hub for London’s emerging listening bar movement.

Drinks: Japanese Spirits First

The drinks menu champions Japanese drinking culture, led by sake, shochu, and Japanese wines. Guests are invited to explore the depth and variety of these traditional spirits, thoughtfully paired with grilled skewers and small plates. A concise cocktail list infused with Japanese flavours complements the programme without overshadowing it – ensuring authenticity remains at the core of the bar’s offering.

Dinner Menu: Skewers & Small Plates

At the heart of Junsei’s dining experience is its yakitori kushiyaki omakase: over 20 chicken skewers cooked nose-to-tail over Binchōtan charcoal, alongside seasonal vegetable and specialty skewers. Sharing plates include wagyu beef rib cap, crab korokke with caviar, flame-seared salmon warayaki, and diver scallops with shoyu butter. Claypot donabe rice, simmered to order, anchors the menu in true communal style.

Late-Night Menu: Izakaya Comforts

Available exclusively during DJ Nights, the late-night menu offers comforting Izakaya-style dishes designed for lingering over drinks and music. Highlights include chicken nanban with tartare mayo, crispy chicken skin chips, and soboro don with minced chicken, egg yolk and shichimi.

Desserts: Sweet Finishes

Desserts balance freshness with indulgence: seasonal granita with fruit and citrus, milk purin with kokuto sugar, and grilled fruit with brown sugar ice cream.
