Nue Ground to launch in Clapham’s Abbeville Village

This November, Nue Ground will open its doors on Abbeville Road, offering the vibrant community its modern, inviting space and bright, relaxing atmosphere.

The café bar, founded by wife and husband team Joanna & Jayke Mangion, co-owner of Clapham Leisure, will launch on 22nd November and bring to life the duo’s long-time vision of creating a local eatery and communal space that has simplicity, sustainability and passion at its heart.

With a string of much loved venues already under the belt, including South London award-winning favourites BrickwoodWC and Old Town Tavern, the team behind Nue Ground will be serving up modern brunch and healthier alternatives in a venue that boasts something for everyone; whether a solo, working lunch in the day, a group of mums and dads looking for a quick coffee after the school run or friends ready for an evening of quality drinks and grazing boards to catch up.

Nue Ground will be open from 7am to 7pm Monday to Wednesday and Sundays, with dedicated brunch, lunch and relaxed early evening menus, as well as local beers, natural wines and Kombucha on tap. Coffee from experts Origin Roastery will be available all day to sit in or takeaway and there will be an exciting grab and go counter featuring fresh, colourful salads, daily ‘hot’ special and plant based cakes.

From Thursday to Saturday, the 65 seat fully licensed venue is open from 7am to late, offering quality wines from small ethical producers as well as grazing platters, flatbreads and sharing boards. A fresh cocktail list will be seasonal and evolve monthly using in-house shrubs and hand made filtered ice.

The menu includes dishes such as Chickpea + Courgette Waffles with labnah and avocado, Buckwheat Pancakes with honey spiced pear, toasted pecans, & whipped peanut butter and Roasted Aubergine with tahini, pine nuts, pearl couscous, pomegranate coconut yoghurt. More classical dishes will feature from ethical suppliers such as Orchard Eggs the Butchers Block & BreadBread Bakery in Brixton.

A dedicated first floor workshop space for up to 10 people will be available for complimentary hire and used for curated monthly events, networking and more intimate dinners.

Products will be on offer in the retail area, which have all been selected with the ethos of championing ethical brands wherever possible.

A dedication to doing good for its local community lay at the heart of Nue Ground. The venue is made up of sustainable furniture, reclaimed and recycled materials, along with hand made tiles and living plants to create the warm and inviting space for guests. Local potters North Street Potters have provided the crockery and 100% of all table water sold goes to environmental causes.

Joanna says, “For us it was a dream and ambition to do something like this, so local to where we live and our kids’ school. I’ve worked in natural health, fitness & hospitality all my life, it’s my passion.”

Jayke adds, “Having joined the ‘Sustainable Restaurant Association’ some time ago, it has started to pave the way to better practice within our small company. This will be the template in a conscious effort towards better processes within the group moving forward.”
