Quartieri is bringing the heart of Naples to London

Directly from those who know Naples best, Quartieri will be an authentic Napoletana pizzeria opening in Kilburn during spring 2017. Inspired by a family recipe dating back to 1923 from the guys who brought Naples the famous Pizzeria Trianon Vomero. Quartieri will be a brand new restaurant, bringing a true taste of Naples to London.

The pizzaioli Napoletani will be using flour and grain that has been milled in the traditional way, slow risen with minimal yeast creating truly authentic pizza from its homeland. The menu will be divided into four sections; antipasti, la storia (the classics), la innovazioni (Quartieri specials) and of course dolce. To start, a selection of frittura will be on offer including crocchette and arancini as well as bruschetta and buffalo mozzarella with tomato. Guests will be able to see the pizzaiolos’ kneading, flipping and baking their pizza directly in front of them, whether they choose a classic such as Marinara or Puttanesca or a pizza inspired by modern Naples like the Costiera Amalfitana made with lemon or Crema di Pistacchio. Pizzeria Trianon Vomero is not only famous in Naples for the taste, but also the size of the pizza. Quartieri will bring this tradition to London by offering all pizza as ‘cartwheels’, as the perfect sharer. To finish, a selection of sweet pizzas will be on offer as well as artisan gelato from Gelupo in London and cheeses from Campania.

The drinks list will be a carefully curated selection of Italian wines, beers and soft drinks. The wine has been selected from independent wine makers in and around the Naples region. Quartieri have worked closely with a vineyard located beneath the Vesuvius volcano to create their own red and white wine. There will also be a focus on Franciacorta, this is Italy’s first wine to be produced with the same method as champagne. The beer will be from award winning brewery in Italy Birrificio del Ducatto, in bottles or as schooners. Coffee will be simply Italian served as espresso or caffe corretto for those who want their espresso ‘corrected’, with a chosen liquor.

Inspired by the energy of the city, the design and feel of Quartieri will be warm and vibrant. With a palate of cooling blues, berry reds, jewel green and brushed brass, the space will make use of geometric shapes, creating a contemporary take on 1960s Naples. In keeping with Quartieri’s ethos, the materials used will be largely organic or in their natural form, with bricks, concrete and wood as the backbones of the space. At the heart of the restaurant will be the flash flame pizza oven, handmade and in keeping with Ernesto Agliarulo, the 5th generation pizza oven maker from Naples considered the best in his field, which is made specifically to keep the perfect temperature to give the pizzas an overall and even bake from top to bottom.

The space will be divided into four quarters representative of the city and take on the personality itself. A live foliage wall containing potted herbs, to showcase the produce that is used on the pizza’s, reminiscent of the plush vegetation seen in ‘Broccoli Hill’ Vomero will cover one wall, ‘iron and lave stone’ will adorn another representative of the industrial area, varying shades of blue from Mergellina will fill the third with the final quarter exhibiting exposed brick walls, tiled floor and colourful wall design evocative of the organised chaos seen in the ‘centro storico’ Old Town of Naples. The music will be curated by Samantha Michelle and Iraina Mancini, known as the Smoking Guns spinning northern soul, funk, 60s rhythm and blues, ska and old school rock-n-roll.

Quartieri will be serving pizzas and plates showcasing the highest quality produce and recipes from the earth and city of Naples. The produce will be largely organic, sourced directly from artisanal, independent suppliers which the founders behind Quartieri have formed over the years.
