The Roaring Goring
The Goring Cocktail Bar launches live music and 1920s-inspired cocktails on Sundays
Yesterday, Belgravia’s historic cocktail bar launched The Roaring Goring, a weekly celebration of live music and prohibition-era cocktails inspired by the drinks and events of the decade. From 6pm every Sunday, the recently refurbished bar will host talented musicians playing lively jazz favourites and roaring classics of the 1920s, am era famed for its revelry.
To accompany the songs and setting, Bar Manager Tiago Mira and his team have concocted a short but sharp list of five 1920s themed cocktails, each harking back to the glory days. The Air Mail references the transatlantic postal delivery service that arrived on our doorsteps in 1918 and is a potent little drink of Havana Club 3 Year Old Rum, lime, honey, Ayala Champagne and Green Chartreuse. The Goring’s Hanky Panky, which was first created by The Savoy’s legendary head bartender Ada Coleman in the early twentieth century, incorporates No.3 London Dry Gin, Mancino Rosso Amaranto and Fernet Branca. Meanwhile The Scofflaw, made with Lot 40 Canadian Rye, Mancino Secco Vermouth, lemon, grenadine and orange bitters epitomises the prohibition era: in 1923 The Boston Herald ran a competition asking readers to coin a new work for “a lawless drinker”, with Scofflaw chosen as the winning term out of 25,000 entries.
To accompany the cocktails and music, guests can enjoy The Goring’s exceptional bar menu, which has been created by renowned chef Nathan Outlaw, who also runs Siren, the hotel’s new seafood restaurant positioned next to the bar. Bar bites include the likes of Crab scones; Cream cheese & herb puffs; Charcuterie with pickles or the hotel’s selection of fine caviars served with blini and sour cream.
Join The Goring in their revival of the Roaring Twenties from Sunday 8 March.
