An Extraordinary Moment In Whisky: Glengoyne Reveals A Once-In-A-Lifetime 46-Year-Old Dram At Scotch At The Balamoral
Glengoyne is inviting whisky lovers to experience a truly once-in-a-lifetime dram with the unveiling of an exceptionally rare 46-Year-Old Single Malt, created in exclusive partnership with SCOTCH at The Balmoral in Edinburgh.
This remarkable one-of-one release has spent nearly half a century quietly maturing before being deemed ready to share. Distilled in 1979 and drawn from a single refill Bourbon cask (No. 1729), the whisky has been bottled at 41.2% ABV, capturing the depth, elegance, and character that only time can create.
Available now, guests at SCOTCH will have the rare opportunity to savour this extraordinary expression, offered at £1,000 per dram – a reflection of its rarity, heritage, and craftsmanship.
The whisky was carefully selected by Glengoyne’s Distillery Manager, Robbie Hughes, alongside SCOTCH Bar Manager Ross Barr, combining decades of expertise to identify a cask of exceptional quality and character.
Set within the refined surroundings of The Balmoral, SCOTCH offers one of Scotland’s most celebrated whisky experiences, with over 500 expressions available. This limited release adds a new pinnacle to its already world-class collection.
More than just a dram, this is a moment – a rare opportunity to taste a piece of whisky history, shaped by time, patience, and uncompromising dedication to craft.
Ross Barr, Bar Manager, SCOTCH at The Balmoral, said “Guests come to SCOTCH at The Balmoral to find something they can’t get anywhere else. This Glengoyne 46 year old Single Cask meets that brief exactly. We wanted a cask that would have immediate appeal for our guests. Bourbon wood combined with Glengoyne’s characteristic fruit-forward flavour notes does that - it’s generous, familiar, and beautifully balanced.”
Robbie Hughes, Distillery Manager of Glengoyne, said: “This 46-Year-Old single cask whisky balances age with elegance. It is one of the oldest expressions Glengoyne has released. The refill Bourbon cask has beautifully preserved Glengoyne’s signature tropical fruit and finesse. We know that the discerning clientele at The Balmoral will appreciate what we have created.”
