Bonnie Gull Seafood Shack is coming to Soho this December
British seaside restaurant Bonnie Gull is delighted to announce the opening of its second Seafood Shack in Soho this December, offering Londoners the very best of daily fresh British fish and shellfish.
Following the success of its much-loved flagship site in Fitzrovia – now celebrating its fifth year – Bonnie Gull Soho will welcome customers from far and wide into its tiny but beautifully formed venue, tucked away in the heart of Soho on Bateman Street.
Drawing inspiration from the British coast with a nod to days gone by at the seaside, Bonnie Gull Soho will maintain the same principles of its successful big sister, reinforcing its commitment to serving fresh, sustainable seafood in London whilst creating a fun, buzzy and interactive environment in which to enjoy the best produce from British shores. With a focus on small plates made for sharing, expect to see the same fresh seafood direct from British day-boats but with some more playful and quirky interpretations.
Distinguished designers, Coriander Buildings (Riding House Café, Blixen), have been commissioned to execute the design of the 23-cover restaurant. Pairing subtle influences from the British coastline with some refined textures to create this unique ‘shack’ in the heart of London. With only a few tables at the rear of the restaurant, the main buzz and hive of activity will be propped up at the bar, allowing those diners perched on stools to observe chefs at work from the open plan kitchen. Food served directly from the charcoal grill, across the counter, diners will have the opportunity to interact directly with the chefs, requesting bespoke ‘off-menu’ dishes for those in the know.
A true advocate of British produce, Bonnie Gull’s Executive Chef, Christian Edwardson (Koffman’s, Bonnie Gull Fitzrovia), has lovingly created a hyper seasonal menu that will be daily-changing based on catch. Accessible, affordable, responsibly sourced, Christian’s menu showcases the very best of seafood from British day-boats and a fantastic selection of fresh oysters including Dorset Rock, Achill Rock, Porthilly Rock and Loch Ryan Native. Sample plates include: “Squid Toast” with Ink Aioli; Wild Hayle mussels cooked over embers with parsley Hollandaise; Charcoal grilled monkfish cheek & duck heart skewer, nduja mayo and Scottish langoustines, confit potatoes in langoustine bisque. Other highlights include: Dorset white crab meat, celeriac, apple & grapefruit; Whipped salt cod brandade with confit duck, yolk and endive and Wood-grilled whole Cornish John Dory, smoked anchovy butter (designed to share).
Sommelier, Bastien Ferreri has created a unique, concise wine list to perfectly pair with the food with all wines available by glass, half and full bottle. The list will change regularly and look to champion small producers. A small selection of stunning cocktails will be available including their signature Bonnie Marytopped with a fresh oyster.
A no-reservations policy will encourage diners to pitch up in good time to grab a seat at the bar. anyone waiting for a seat will be given a discount card for nearby bars and cafes and sent a text when their seat is available. A snug seating area for up to 11 people at the back of the restaurant will be available for private hire and Christmas parties.
