Boutique hotelier closes all of its hotels for 11 days to ensure wellbeing of staff

A boutique hotelier is closing all of its hotels for up to 11 days during January as part of a new ‘Wellbeing Week’ designed to help boost the morale and wellness of its staff.

For the very first time, The Eden Hotel Collection, which has award-winning luxury hotels across the country, will close for custom during the initiative.

Staff can opt to spend the time however they wish, or can join wellbeing events put on by the hotel including an exercise session from a personal trainer. The group decided to launch the initiative for 2022 to give staff a deserved break and start the New Year refreshed after a difficult year for the hospitality industry.

Mark Chambers, Managing Director at The Eden Hotel Collection, said: “People are at the heart of the hospitality sector, and none more so than our staff who have been working so incredibly hard.

“However, hospitality has been one of the hardest-hit sectors throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Restrictions have led to long periods of closure, and the restart in May – while hugely welcome – also led to prolonged periods of high business levels against a backdrop of well-documented industry staff shortages.

“We are very conscious of the impact the last 18 months has had on our people and really wanted to ensure everyone has the time and space to focus on their health and wellbeing.

“Whether that’s by joining one of the wellbeing sessions, or by spending time with their family and friends, we hope the Wellbeing Week will help all staff return into the New Year refreshed and ready to welcome back our guests.”

The closure of all hotels will allow staff to utilise their annual leave for some much-needed time off.

As well as a session from Personal Trainer and Wellness Coach Kate Cheer, the Wellbeing Week will include drop-in ‘Tea and Talk’ sessions with the hotel’s HR teams upon their return.

Staff will also be given a month’s access to mindfulness app Headspace, links for wellbeing sources, tools such as a Mental Health MOT, and recommended podcasts and playlists relating to mindfulness and relaxation.

The boutique Eden hotel group includes The Arden Hotel in Stratford-upon-Avon, The Greenway Hotel and Spa in Cheltenham, Brockencote Hall Hotel in Kidderminster, Mallory Court Hotel and Spa in Leamington, and Bovey Castle in Devon – each with its own individual character, historic architecture, roaring fires and idyllic surroundings.

Both the spas at Mallory and Greenway will remain open for treatments and facility use.
