Dive Into The Maldives: Le Méridien Maldives Spotlights Its Exceptional Underwater Experiences

From a vibrant house reef and guided dives for all experience levels to a new Marriott Bonvoy Moments experience with award-winning underwater photographer Greg Lecoeur

Set within the vibrant Lhaviyani Atoll, Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa invites travellers to experience the Maldives’ underwater world. From its thriving house reef to more than 50 renowned dive sites, the resort’s surrounding waters offer an expansive playground for everyone from first-time divers to experienced underwater explorers. With a thriving population of sea turtles, the dive sites allow guests to get up close and personal with the atoll’s abundant marine life, discovering exhilarating channel dives amongst the beauty and diversity of the house reef.

With its house reef providing direct access to the marine environment surrounding the island, Le Méridien Maldives makes underwater exploration an integral part of a stay. Home to a range of marine life, from green turtles and reef sharks to stingrays and eagle rays, alongside colourful reef fish including parrotfish, batfish, clownfish, and pufferfish. The resort’s daily diving experiences cater to everyone from beginners taking their first steps into diving to experienced divers looking to venture further into the Lhaviyani Atoll, with prices starting from £150 / €170.

The resort’s underwater offering has been certified by Scuba Schools International (SSI), which selected Le Méridien Maldives as the location for its latest high-quality scuba training videos. Guests can step into the same waters where SSI professionals film and train, discovering life beneath the waters through curated diving and snorkelling experiences led by Sub Oceanic Maldives.

Beyond the thrill of exploring the Maldives’ vibrant underwater world, Le Méridien Maldives invites guests to take their ocean adventures one step further through its Marine Master Programme, part of Good Travel by Marriott Bonvoy. Led by the resort’s resident marine biologist, this immersive, hands-on experience offers guests the opportunity to discover the secrets of the ocean while playing an active role in protecting its delicate ecosystems. From identifying turtles in their natural habitat and exploring colourful coral gardens to venturing through seagrass meadows in a Breathing Observation Bubble (B.O.B.) and discovering the fascinating rays that inhabit Maldivian waters, the programme brings marine conservation to life through six engaging modules. Guests who complete four of the six experiences can even earn their Marine Master Certification, taking home more than just unforgettable underwater memories. These curated experiences offer guests a deeper understanding of and connection to the local community, allowing them to leave a positive impact whilst travelling.

This November, Le Méridien Maldives is placing its underwater world even further into the spotlight with The Living Ocean: An Underwater Photography Experience with Greg Lecoeur, offering Marriott Bonvoy members the opportunity to dive alongside internationally renowned French underwater and wildlife photographer and marine conservation advocate Greg Lecoeur. Taking place from 23 to 28 November, the five-night experience for two includes a stay in an Overwater Pool Villa and three diving experiences with Lecoeur, bringing guests closer to the marine environment through guided dives, underwater photography and personal insights gathered from his years exploring the world’s oceans. The experience also includes an exclusive meet and greet cocktail and dinner with Greg Lecoeur, and guests will receive 15 high-definition photographs from the experience, captured by Lecoeur.

Known for his striking imagery capturing the beauty, diversity, and fragility of marine environments, Lecoeur’s accolades include Underwater Photographer of the Year 2020 and National Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year 2016.

While the Greg Lecoeur experience offers Marriott Bonvoy members an exclusive opportunity to see the Lhaviyani Atoll through the lens of one of the world’s leading underwater photographers, the waters that make the experience possible can be explored by guests throughout the year, with the waters remaining a warm and pleasant temperature through all seasons. From guided diving sessions in the house reef and beyond, to turtle reef and nurse shark adventures and even night diving options, Le Méridien Maldives offers a gateway to discovering the Maldives beneath the surface.

Beyond its underwater offerings, Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa blends contemporary, eco-conscious design with the lush beauty of its natural island setting. The resort’s 134 stylish villas range from one-bedroom to two-bedroom Beach and Overwater Villas, designed for flexibility to host everything from solo escapes to stays with families and groups of friends. For larger groups, the exclusive three-bedroom Thilamaafushi Villa offers an elevated island retreat, spacious living areas, complete with a private pool, jacuzzi and direct beach access. Beach Villas open onto stretches of soft, white sand, while Overwater Villas sit above the lagoon, with steps leading straight into the crystal-clear waters of the Indian Ocean for swimming, snorkelling, and exploration. With five distinctive restaurants and bars, the overwater Explore Spa, a padel court, The Family Kids Hub, and a wealth of recreational experiences, Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa offers the perfect balance of relaxation, discovery, and adventure, both on land and beneath the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.
