Editor’s Review – Marbella Corfu, Luxury 5 Star Hotel

The MarBella Corfu Hotel is a luxury 5 Star hotel situated on the east coast of the Greek Island of Corfu. The complex stretches from the beach to halfway up the side of a hill giving spectacular views across the Straits of Corfu to the Greek coastline on the other side, especially from the rooftop terraces.
The hotel offers 384 guest rooms to cater for all: double rooms, family rooms and suites, spread throughout 6 buildings. These are decorated in soft neutral colours with comfortable furnishings and modern amenities. For the active minded, there is a multi-sports centre with tennis courts and football pitch and a multi-gym fitness room. But for those wanting a more relaxing stay, there are a selection of pools – both fresh water and salt water, an outdoor Jacuzzi, a spa and hairdressers.

The Hotel is about a 25 minute drive from Corfu International Airport, from where we were picked up by the hotels’ transfer service. On arrival we were warmly greeted at reception and had a fast efficient check-in. Our room was a suite with sea view. In comprised of two bedrooms, one with an en-suite bathroom with bath and complimentary Apivita toiletries, and built in wardrobes, the other with a separate shower room and toilet and a sitting area consisting of corner sofa and coffee table and a large impressive free standing lamp. Both rooms had a large wall-mounted tv and with wi-fi connection, Nespresso and tea-making facilities, mini-bar, safe, hairdryer and air-conditioning, the room was designed with comfort and style in mind. Outside, there was a private terrace area with table and chairs for al fresco entertaining and sun loungers to soak up the sun in the vicinity of your own room. Throughout our stay, the room was cleaned daily and complimentary bottled water replenished and all requests were organised with the minimum of fuss.

The hotel has a total of six restaurants from which to eat, the majority of which we sampled during our stay. La Terraza is the main restaurant, which offers buffet style breakfast, lunch and dinner. Most tastes will be catered for in La Terraza, as the selection on offer covers a wide variety, from traditional continental to cereals and fruits to hot choices at breakfast, and Greek and international dishes for lunch and dinner. The Comodo, Italian restaurant is a poolside a la carte venue which provides all three meals throughout the day. The restaurant was a personal favourite offering not just pastas but also some glorious meat dishes and outstanding desserts. Next to the Comodo is the Platea Greek Restaurant. Obviously, we had to try the traditional fare and it was so good, we returned a second night. The feta in filo pastry and moussaka were particularly tasty. The staff at the restaurants were extremely efficient and consistently helpful and could not be faulted. In addition to the restaurants, the hotel has a selection of bars to quench the thirst, whether it is a refreshing daytime drink in the Cascade poolside bar or a post dinner nightcap on the terrace of the Belvedere lounge bar.

The hotel is very welcoming to families as well as couples and individuals. We had our toddler with us and not once were we made to feel uncomfortable, in fact to the contrary were made to feel very welcome, particularly in the restaurants, even when he became restless.
There are two splash pools specifically for children – one for the very young. These have a variety of water features, in which the children can play and also some slides into the pools. There is also a kids club, teen club and crèche which offer organised activities, a playground and an undercover fenced play area for the toddlers.

Our stay at the Marbella Corfu, was as relaxing as we could have wished it to be. The hotel is set in a beautiful location with stunning views, adjacent to a private beach, surrounded by landscaped gardens and containing plenty of plant-life. The staff in the hotel and restaurants were extremely polite and exceedingly efficient with an excellent grasp of various languages. The 5 star status is well-earned and brings a luxurious stay to this most beautiful of Greek Islands.
