Mediterranean restaurant ‘HAZ’ signs for debut West End site in the Yards, Covent Garden

Longmartin Properties Ltd, a joint venture between Shaftesbury and the Mercers’ Company, announces the signing of HAZ, a modern Mediterranean restaurant, at 10 Upper St Martin’s Lane, for its first West End flagship location, within The Yards, Covent Garden.

Opening its doors two decades ago, HAZ currently operates six sites across The City and is set to launch the 7,000 sq ft restaurant within The Yards in early 2022, forming part of its expansion plans for central London and the West End. Built on the vast experience and passion of the brand’s three Turkish founders, HAZ takes great inspiration from ancient Turkish cooking techniques and celebrates Mediterranean flavours.

Known for warm and traditional Turkish hospitality, HAZ’s newest West End flagship restaurant will cater to 150 covers, both inside and out and will feature a bespoke menu, all using fresh, local and seasonal ingredients, especially created for The Yards.

Zafer Cicek, Director of HAZ, commented on the new West End restaurant: “As three Turkish men in the UK, we found ourselves unable to find traditional food from our homeland in London and set about to be the first truly authentic Turkish restaurant in the capital. Two decades later, we have established ourselves as a warm and inviting restaurant providing brilliant authentic Mediterranean cuisine. We have always been keen to open a site in central London and had not found anything quite right up until now. The Yards offers us the perfect location and space, all with the added bonus of being alongside other like-minded brands in this exciting new food destination.”

On behalf of Longmartin Properties Ltd, Simon Taylor, Property Director at the Mercers’ Company added: “The whole team at Longmartin Properties have taken great care in curating an exceptional line-up to cement The Yards as a destination dining hub in the heart of central London. Over the years, the team behind HAZ has created a much-loved authentic Mediterranean 0ffering and the brand’s traditional Turkish menu is set to join an eclectic mix of global cuisines, sitting perfectly next to well-loved concepts including the new upsized Dishoom plus many more to come.”

This follows news that Italy’s favourite pasta restaurant, miscusi, has selected The Yards, Covent Garden, for its debut UK location and its first restaurant outside of Italy. In addition, the signing of Burmese restaurant, Laphet on 21 Slingsby Place, is set to launch in early 2022.
