New ECO ControllerTM Energy Management System from Atlas Copco Boosts Worksite Efficiency and Productivity
Atlas Copco has launched a new energy management system, the ECO ControllerTM, to enable users to increase energy efficiency and productivity across their worksites. Operators can now achieve the highest levels of energy control with the new ECO interface.
“As customers seek energy solutions to operate more sustainably, the energy transition is gathering pace, affecting many sectors and industries,” says Bárbara Gregorio, Divisional Sales and Marketing Manager, Power & Energy at Atlas Copco’s Portable Power and Flow. “We are excited by this transformation of the power supply sector and have expanded our energy offering with these new solutions to enable customers to increase their operational agility and to make significant cost savings.”
The ECO ControllerTM is built into all Atlas Copco’s reliable battery-based energy storage systems (ESS), including the ZBP and ZBC models, acting as the ‘brain’ of the unit and allowing operators to efficiently manage energy output and distribute the load onsite. The ECO human-machine interface (HMI) provides users with full control over their temporary power applications by optimizing energy generation, distribution, and consumption through advanced data management.
To deliver a more intuitive, powerful, and reliable experience for users, Atlas Copco has incorporated a suite of improvements, meticulously developed over a year of dedicated client feedback, focused on elevating user experience, data clarity, and operational efficiency. Key updates include refreshed visual aesthetics and a streamlined interface, providing cleaner and more relevant monitoring data at one glance.
The new ECO ControllerTM is now able to communicate with third party systems to improve the modular setup of portable power plants. Integration of different generator brand’s controllers such as DSE, CAT, Cummins, and Comap allows you to work with any generator in your existing fleet and maximizes the compatibility with Atlas Copco’s portable power products. Power plants can be perfectly tailored to your specific needs and circumstances unlocking a new level of personalization and agility in creating modular power plants.
The latest iteration also boasts deeply integrated routines such as automatic calibration and charging derating, alongside configurable “recipes” for various operational scenarios. Users will benefit from a highly customizable experience with dynamic screen updates tailored to their current setup, offering a simplified interface for new users while retaining advanced screens for seasoned professionals. Furthermore, comprehensive troubleshooting aids have been integrated, providing informative messages, a clear state machine overview, centralized monitoring of all Energy Storage System (ESS) components, detailed rack isolation and cell temperature data, SD Card datalogging capabilities, and enhanced manual operation controls.
The energy management system enhances scalable and decentralized systems with several energy inputs. Thanks to built-in intelligence, energy storage systems can optimize the use of energy coming from different sources – from power generators, the electric grid, renewable sources, and large fleets of battery-based storage solutions, or any combination of these.
The innovative system monitors the equipment, providing critical information about real-time health. It is user-friendly and intuitive with a touchscreen panel and easily configurable settings, giving a visual state of the batteries and the load amount. Operators using ECO can ensure that they are using the energy in the most efficient way to cut costs and reduce their environmental footprint. They can make sure that the load is fully covered, and also easily resolve any unpredictable power failures quickly and efficiently to minimize downtime.
Additionally, ECO increases flexibility across sites as it provides operators with remote control of their application. Data is sent to Fleetlink (Atlas Copco’s intelligent telematics system) so users can monitor and manage their entire fleet remotely. The ECO ControllerTM helps rental companies and operators to deploy flexible power, decarbonize operations, and achieve significant fuel, maintenance cost, and lifecycle savings. Furthermore, the ECO ControllerTM is a scalable solution, with the ability to add new energy sources and components as required. As a result, users can future-proof their sites to meet the forthcoming energy needs of their operations.
