Respiray – the latest innovation for the hospitality industry
Respiray is a technology company founded after the COVID-19 pandemic broke out due to insufficient protective equipment. Its primary device, a personal wearable air purifier that uses UV-C light to inactivate viruses, is one such hybrid solution to fighting the coronavirus in hotels.
Respiray at the Independent Hotel Show in London
More recently, at the Independent Hotel Show, the only UK event catering directly to the independent and boutique hotel industry, Respiray showcased its wearable air purifiers to boutique hotels that were discussing key issues affecting the sector.
Respiray’s technology is proving so popular amongst hospitality and conference businesses that the Nordic Hotel Forum, a four-star hotel part of the WorldHotels Collection in Estonia’s capital Tallinn, heavily invested in Respiray devices to protect their business conference centres so that their hotel remained COVID-resilient.
Felix Mägus, general manager at Nordic Hotel Forum, adds, “we are offering the hotel and conference centre visitors wearable air purifiers Respiray, developed in Estonia. They use UV technology to purify 99% of the air to be breathed in and direct the purified air in the direction of the mouth and nose of the wearer.”
Why hotels are using Respiray
People still feel apprehensive about travelling to hospitality events, restaurants and hotels. The standard safety measures in place – masks and hand sanitisers upon entry and keeping your distance to 2 metres are not enough anymore.
Hotel guests and restaurant customers now expect hospitality venues to have innovative COVID-safety protocols.
To entice more hotel guests and visitors, hotels must stand out as safe, innovative, and caring by protecting their staff and visitors with comfortable and highly effective wearable air purifiers. Receptionists, restaurant staff, lobby workers and other front-line staff can wear Respiray.
Furthermore, several hotels offer the devices in their conference centres as a marketing and sales tool to stand out from competitors and offer extra peace of mind for business clients to host an event at their hotel and generate buzz around using the latest technology.
Events and conferences, including business startup networking events, film festivals, and technology conferences like TedX Tallinn, are using Respiray to safeguard their attendees and staff, keeping the hospitality sector functioning during COVID times.

Becoming a COVID-resilient hotel offers hotels a competitive edge over the competition as business visitors and hotel guests will flock to those who prioritise their health over others and can offer services like conference events that were the norm before the COVID-19 outbreak.
In effect, an investment in this technology will guarantee more business and ensure that the venue can remain open during rising coronavirus cases.
How does Respiray work?
The wearable air purifier sits on a wearer’s shoulders, filtering unfiltered air through its UV-C disinfection module and circulates virus-free air to the front of the wearer’s face without the need to wear a mask. The device purifies up to 55 litres of air per minute — up to 4x more than an average resting human breathes.
The company’s innovative patent-pending UV-C disinfection modules provide maximum disinfection with minimum energy consumption. These disinfection modules have been independently tested by the Universities of Tartu and Lodz, where they achieved over 99% effectiveness at inactivating various viruses and bacteria. Additional testing demonstrated that UV-C LEDs that operate at a wavelength of 265nm, do not produce ozone or any other chemicals.
Respiray for hotels and hospitality
Respiray was designed to ensure hotels remain open by protecting and reassuring customers and employees that they will not be infected by the virus when staying at their hotel.
The world has acknowledged that to live with the virus, there is a need for better protective technology. Using technological solutions like Respiray and others will only increase as hotels seek to remain open in the coming years.
