The Uniform Studio
The Uniform Studio celebrates the beauty of workwear, producing bespoke uniforms for an international mix of clients.
Based in London, this design studio is an industry leader in providing beautiful, contemporary and hardwearing garments to the hospitality, hotel and retail industries. Complete looks are created for high profile clients including the Soho House Group, Anya Hindmarch and the newly revamped Design Museum, using only the finest fabrics to ensure neither quality nor style are compromised.
The Uniform Studio’s Designer & Co-founder Lois Hill, with a science degree and a stint at the London College of Fashion under her belt, kick-started her career as a fashion stylist in London. Her natural talent and passion for clothes saw her travel to the Balearic Islands where she began to design and produce theatre costumes for high profile, big budget productions.
Once back in the UK, her inborn sense of style, love of fashion and an intelligent, acute understanding of the functionality of garments organically led to the launch of The Uniform Studio, along with business partner, Chris Meeten.
Chris grew up around the renowned East London tailors’ cutting rooms and took an interest in the industry from an early age. Harnessing his passion for clothing, he carved his early career in the bespoke suit business gaining expert knowledge in garment construction, pattern cutting and fabric types.
Chris’s wealth of technical experience, coupled with Lois’ honed design skills, struck the perfect balance and in 2008, The Uniform Studio was born.
Now in business for nearly a decade, the studio offers a very personal and complete service to its customers. Lois and Chris feel that it’s their responsibility to understand who their customers are and what they want to achieve through their uniforms. Their expertise lies in finding the right balance between the form and function of the garment to ensure that all the boxes are ticked and all needs are met.
‘People are very image conscious and savvy these days so you need to be able to respond with versatility to your client’s brief. Some are looking to simply update a look and feel they are ‘on trend’ whereas others want to be original and make a statement. We need to ensure we come up with ideas that fulfil each of our clients’ individual requirements.’
As a natural progression through demand, The Uniform Studio launched its ready to wear online shop in Spring 2016 offering a comprehensive collection that combines both utility and beauty.
Building on the years of designing and producing bespoke uniforms, the new e-commerce shop features aprons, waistcoats, shirts & dresses in hardwearing but beautiful fabrics such as Denim and Linen in a variety of colourways.
