The Xara Collection, Malta’s leading heritage-led hospitality group, is delighted to announce the appointment of Thomas Agius Ferrante as its new Chief Executive Officer. Having grown up in Mdina, Thomas joins The Xara Palace with extensive international experience and a deep personal connection to the city. Joining the family-run collection, he will work closely alongside Justin Zammit Tabona, Managing Director and Nicola Paris, Director, as part of the leadership team, further strengthening its commitment to excellence while honouring its deep-rooted Maltese heritage.
“Thomas brings knowledge, skill, warmth and a strong sense of direction,” said Justin Zammit Tabona, Managing Director of The Xara Collection. “His leadership will play an important role in continuing to evolve The Xara Collection with confidence, while staying true to the heritage and stories that define our properties.”
Thomas has built a distinguished career in luxury hospitality, having worked in some of
the finest hotels across London, Wales, and the Lake District, including the Grove of Narbeth, part of the Seren Collection and Gilpin Hotel & Lake House. Over the years, he has honed his expertise in operations, guest experience, and leadership, learning from some of the most respected professionals in the industry. Yet for Thomas, this appointment is far more than a professional milestone; it is a heartfelt homecoming. Having grown up within the walls of Mdina, the city forms part of his earliest memories. Joining The Xara Collection allows him to reconnect with the place that shaped his life.
Thomas Agius Ferrante, CEO, The Xara Collection, commented: “Returning to Mdina and to The Xara Collection feels like coming home. There is a unique energy here, a sense of continuity and history that is deeply inspiring. I look forward to working with our talented team to create experiences that feel genuine, respect the heritage of our buildings, and provide meaningful connections for our guests. Together, we will ensure that The Xara Collection continues to be a beacon of Maltese hospitality.”
Looking ahead, Thomas is focused on further strengthening The Xara Collection as one of Malta’s leading examples of refined, heritage-led hospitality and gastronomy. At its heart is The Xara Palace, complemented by Palazzino Belvedere, an exclusive residence offering heightened privacy and understated luxury. He envisions Palazzino Belvedere evolving into a benchmark for intimate, design-led stays while remaining deeply rooted in Maltese heritage. Beyond the city walls, he is dedicated to positioning Villa Barumbara Tal-Larinġ as the ultimate family retreat, a secluded countryside sanctuary designed for guests to slow down and reconnect.
On the culinary front, Thomas will oversee a Michelin-starred portfolio featuring the contemporary elegance of de Mondion and the produce-driven, boundary-breaking experience at Rosami. This gastronomic offering is completed by the award-winning Medina Restaurant, set within a historic 11th-century residence, and the relaxed, regional flavours of Trattoria AD 1530.
Through thoughtful and consistent evolution, Thomas aims to enhance these properties within the Collection while preserving the authenticity and character that define its identity.
