Premium hospitality group Upmarket Leisure has today (November 4th) formally launched its first international outpost, a new world-class poolside experience and Mediterranean restaurant, Cabana Club, at the recently opened ME Malta – a luxury hotel by ME by Meliá.

Located at the island’s highly anticipated lifestyle development Mercury, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects and positioned in the heart of St. Julians, the opening follows years of planning with Mercury Towers Ltd and ME by Meliá, with the three companies delighted to cement this landmark strategic partnership.

The launch is the first of three upscale experiential restaurants and bars to be opened by Upmarket Leisure at Mercury, further heightening the extraordinary venue’s culinary experience.  They will include an exclusive premium Italian restaurant, Luciano, by leading chef Gino D’Acampo, and modern Asian grill and cocktail bar, Radio Rooftop, together with meetings and event facilities.

Located on the eighth floor, Cabana Club is Malta’s new premier rooftop poolside club providing guests, residents, and visitors with the ultimate poolside experience and Mediterranean restaurant.  Combining breathtaking views with a stunning rooftop pool, an alfresco pool bar, juice bar, and exclusive 200-cover modern Mediterranean restaurant, it is the perfect destination to relax, dine and party poolside, in style.  Cabana Club is open seven days a week from morning until late.

Hot on its heels and set to open in early 2025, Luciano by Gino D’Acampo will provide guests with the finest Italian cuisine.  Located on the fifth floor of ME Malta and seating 300 guests, it will provide the perfect blend of indoor and alfresco dining with its impressive rooftop terrace.  An authentic Italian service will see a premium yet informal dining experience delivered.

Occupying ME Malta’s twentieth floor, signature ME by Meliá concept Radio Rooftop will open in spring 2025 catering for a stylish and discerning crowd. Set to be one of Malta’s most coveted venues, here guests will be able to enjoy a luxury rooftop pool, modern Asian sharing plates, and world-class cocktails whilst soaking up spectacular unobstructed views of the island and beyond.  Live music from internationally acclaimed artists will be available at each of the three venues.

Further extending the partnership, Upmarket Leisure will provide a first-class gastronomic service to the 140-room ME Malta hotel and Mercury Suites, comprising 48 luxury suites and 450 luxury apartments.  Services will include breakfast, in-room dining, meetings, events, and banqueting.

Speaking on the news, Chairman of Upmarket Leisure, Steven Walker, said: “After many years of talking, we are proud to announce this significant partnership with Mercury and ME by Meliá.  The time has allowed us to get to know one another well and plan these openings to the last detail.  With this first launch, of ultimate rooftop poolside experience and Mediterranean restaurant, Cabana Club, we are delighted to cement Mercury’s position as Malta’s most exciting residential and leisure destination.”

Marcel Bonnici, CEO at Mercury Towers Ltd, added: “Upmarket Leisure’s reputation for delivering excellence as standard is unrivalled.  We are delighted to welcome the team to Mercury and to work together to provide the local community and visitors to Malta with a world-class experiential culinary and leisure experience, commencing with the launch of luxury poolside experience and Mediterranean restaurant, Cabana Club.”

Nagive Asm, Cluster General Manager at ME by Meliá, concluded: “As we celebrate the arrival of ME Malta in this extraordinary destination, in the heart of St Julians, we are proud to further extend our partnership with Upmarket Leisure.  These three new premium venues provide the perfect complement to our luxury offer here in Malta and herald the first of a number of exciting international developments as we look to further global expansion.”

Designed by world-renowned Zaha Hadid Architects, Mercury is a new destination to elevate Malta’s urban landscape. Positioned in the heart of St Julians, the long-awaited lifestyle destination serves the local community and visitors in a progressive, inclusive, and inspired setting offering exceptional bespoke retail, accommodation, entertainment, and dining experiences.

Cabana Club Malta formally opens at ME Malta, Mercury, today (November 4th), with Luciano by Gino D’Acampo and Radio Rooftop to follow in early 2025.  The openings are the latest in a series of developments for Upmarket Leisure, which earlier this year celebrated the re-opening of iconic rooftop cocktail bar, Radio Rooftop, at ME London to follow an extensive £2.5m refurbishment.  Radio Rooftop Malta will be the premium hospitality group’s second location as Upmarket Leisure increases its footprint in the UK and internationally.
