Our Heritage and Proud History

Founded by brothers Vincent (RHS fellow) and Norman Hartley, the company was (to our knowledge) the first to develop and make entirely aluminium Greenhouse structures, marking a huge improvement on its wood and wrought iron Victorian forerunners.

Since then, we have built a name and reputation amongst the horticultural elite, to be synonymous with excellence; thanks to our incomparable range, our structurally superior Greenhouses which ‘last a lifetime’ and our exceptional service delivery.

Queen’s Award For Enterprise

Hartley Botanic was recognised in 2021’s prestigious Queen’s Awards for Enterprise (International Trade 2021) for our work growing sales of its English, handmade structures abroad. The award itself was presented in April 2023 by the Lord Lieutenant for Greater Manchester.

“In 1948 my father bought a 15’ x 10’ Hartley Greenhouse and convinced me, an unwilling teenager, to lay the foundations for the first time… My father-in-law then transported it to Anglesey. Imagine my delight when it came into my possession in 1983. The foundations for this engineering masterpiece were again laid in Southport and then in the garden of my present home.
