BOXPARK’S NEW ‘BOXHALL’ CONCEPT GETS PLANNING CONSENT FOR LIVERPOOL STREET SITE WITH ROOF TERRACE
Liverpool Street is getting its very own food hall with a diverse offering, as BOXPARK’s first BOXHALL scheme in London receives planning consent today.
Following approval of its licelnsing by the City of London earlier this year, the BOXHALL City proposals have today been granted planning permission with the venue set to open in Summer 2024. BOXPARK has agreed a lease with TfL, the site’s freehold owners, for the Metropolitan Arcade building which is located close to Liverpool Street station – served by four Tube lines, the Elizabeth line and other rail services to and from Essex and Hertfordshire.
The award-winning dining, retail and leisure group is set to transform the building into a vibrant all-day dining destination, offering high-quality food and drink from independent food traders and restaurant operators.
Alongside the outstanding food offer, the venue will be home to signature bars specialising in a quality range of draught, craft beers and cocktails.
The approved proposals include 16 kitchen units, two internal bars, and a stunning roof terrace. The 17,000 sq. ft building has a ground floor with 280 internal seating covers and the garden roof terrace will boast an additional 170 covers.
Simon Champion, CEO of BOXPARK comments on planning approval for BOXHALL City: “We are delighted to receive the news today that BOXHALL City has planning approval, as we aim to revive the Metropolitan Arcade building whilst retaining its unique character. Our team has worked extremely hard to secure this incredible central location in the City, and we are very excited about creating an all-day social dining destination to cater for hungry City workers, local residents in the neighbourhood, as well as attracting tourists and helping to drive footfall into the area.”
Chairman of the City of London Corporation’s Planning and Transportation Committee, Shravan Joshi, said: “As footfall continues to swell in Central London, post-lockdown, The City Corporation is pleased to see BOXPARK get the green light to develop this site on Liverpool Street, right beside the busiest rail station in the Square Mile. We are dedicated to curating the City as a thriving, seven-day-a-week destination.
“Projects like the BOXHALL scheme will help us to realise our ‘Destination City’ vision, by enhancing the visitor and tourist brand for the City of London, further boosting the Square Mile’s position as one of London’s premier places to live, work, socialise and visit.”
Daniel Lovatt, Director of Asset Management at TTLP, Transport for London’s wholly owned property arm, said: “We are delighted to have worked with BOXPARK to secure their planning consent for the Metropolitan Arcade. The fantastic addition of the roof garden will create an exciting and unique experience at this key transport hub, served by four Tube lines and the Elizabeth line, in the heart of central London. We look forward to people discovering all that BOXHALL has to offer and seeing our ever-evolving retail estate and the opportunities it presents.”
BOXHALL is the group’s new high-end street food concept, with all sites to be developed in existing buildings – most of which will be historical, rich in cultural heritage or iconic in their respective local communities.
The new BOXHALL site is part of BOXPARK’s expansion plans following its recent announcement of the debut BOXHALL concept in Bristol. BOXHALL City will be the first of its kind in London with further sites to be announced later this year.
