Bramble Ski Launches Fearless Families Summer Holiday Experiences
Sleep in the Wilderness, Hike Along Canyons, Traverse Rock Faces and Soar Above Valleys with Bramble Ski
Families looking for a summer holiday with a difference should look to Zermatt, Switzerland, this summer with Bramble Ski. The luxury chalet operator is offering bespoke, new summer itineraries that will get kids out of the classroom, parents away from the iPads and everyone enjoying time together exploring the mountains with activities including heli-biking, parapenting, hiking, overnight cabin stays and more.
Arthur Conan Doyle is claimed to have popularised downhill skiing in Switzerland in 1894, before then the Alps were exclusively a summer holiday destination. Bramble Ski is striving to help families re-discover the magic of summer in the mountains by opening up the Christiania Residences, Zermatt, for summer holidays. Six apartments that sleep between four and 14 guests and cater to a range of budgets are available, from a two-bedroom apartment with hot tub to a seven-bedroom, two-floor penthouse.
Guests looking for a fully immersive experience can spend a night away from the Christiania Residences and stay at a remote mountain cabin, under a canopy of stars. Away from civilisation, curious families will get a privileged insight into the mountain ecosystem and the chance to spot animals such as ibex chamois, stag, roe deer and marmot, that are rarely seen in the busy winter season.
To reach the mountain hut guests will breath clear mountain air whilst walking the scenic Five Lakes Hike. Passing five dramatic lakes, guests can stop to enjoy a picnic and appreciate the Matterhorn reflected in the waters, a picturesque motif for photographs and paintings.
For adrenaline hungry travellers, heli-biking trips will drop families at trails not accessible by bike alone, with mountain-top landing sites leading to endless bike trails. Meanwhile, 25 – 45-minute parapenting flights will fly guests around the peaks of Zermatt, above flower-filled meadows, green pine forests and peaceful lakes.
Bramble Ski’s new itineraries will be fully bespoke according to families’ preferences. An example itinerary is included below:
Day one
Start the week with the wow factor Gornergorge Canyon walk. Follow a wooden walkway that winds high along the canyon, above the thundering river below.
Day Two
With hundreds of hikes to choose from in the area there are a wealth of things to explore. Bramble Ski suggests the Five Lakes Hike that passes five mountain lakes and offers exceptional views of the Matterhorn.
As part of Five Lakes Hike detour to Flualp Mountain Hut at 2620m. Arriving in time for sunset, enjoy drinks before a well-deserved, simple Swiss dinner is served. After dinner head outside to take in the spectacular night sky, totally unspoiled by light pollution, before spending the night in a mountain cabin.
Day Three
Wake up early at the mountain hut to watch the sunrise over the peaks, then continue the Five Lakes Hike.
End the day with a tandem parapente flight, lasting around 25-45 minutes, soaring around the peaks of Zermatt before landing near the village. The views in the summer are spectacular.
Day Four
Day off to relax and explore the village.
Day Five
Start the day climbing through the tree tops, along zip lines and through various obstacles, testing your balance and strength.
Mountain biking is a fantastic way to explore the mountains, take it to another level this afternoon with a heli-biking trip. Reach trails not normally accessible on bike alone, with three mountain top landing sites to choose from leading to endless bike trails.
Day Six
Climb Via Ferrata. Ideal for beginners, enjoy the thrill of traversing rock faces high above the ground without the need to carry ropes. With three routes available, you can choose between A, B or C depending on your experience.
