92 rooms from £175/pn inc. VAT (weekends) and from £285/pn inc VAT (weekdays) Roof terrace; all-day restaurant; underground speakeasy
A new hotel set back on Garlick Hill, between the architectural triumphs of Sir Christopher Wren and The Shard in the warren of streets that line the Thames, Vintry & Mercer will connect guests to the unique story of the City’s past and the best of the modern day capital.
Opening 4 February 2019, the hotel is a 2-minute walk from London’s Cannon Street station and Mansion House tube – perfect for the modern traveller. Located in the historic Vintry Ward, the destination is inspired by the rich cultural influences of the historic area – where the Vintry Guild (est.1363) traded wines and the Mercer Guild (est. 1304) traded in fine fabrics. From barrel-aged cocktails to bespoke fabrics and old trading maps decorating the 92 rooms, hallways and dining spaces, guests will discover references to these historic trades blended with a contemporary edge.

All rooms have been designed with carefully considered touches including bespoke velvet headboards, textile furnishings, leather door handles and artwork. Amenities in all rooms include complimentary WIFI, tea-making facilities and soft drinks, 24 hour room service, LED TVs with movies on demand, laptop safe, air conditioning, and a Nespresso machine and Marshall speakers in Superior rooms and above.
DISTINCT DINING DESTINATIONS
For breakfasts, business lunches, dinners with friends or intimate cocktails, Vintry & Mercer boasts 3 distinct destinations:
Vintry Kitchen
A relaxed restaurant, Vintry Kitchen is located on the ground floor and will be open all day. The room is elegant but informal with geometric tiled floors, urbane fittings, marble-topped tables and leather banquette seating. The menu incorporates the flavours of Asia, from the salty tang of miso and the fiery kick of kimchi, to the freshness of yuzu and gentle heat of wasabi.
Wine is central to the approach at Vintry Kitchen as sailors and wine merchants landing nearby used to store wines close to the hotel. The restaurant offers a selection of wines by the glass, tapped straight from the barrels lining the gantry.
Mercer Roof Terrace
In one sweep, the view from Mercer Roof Terrace takes in London’s skyline, from the dome of St Paul’s Cathedral to the glass tip of The Shard. Here, guests can dine al fresco above the city lights. Inside the atmosphere is warm and convivial, with floor-to-ceiling glass doors, opening wide to bring the outdoors in.
The menu celebrates the best of modern British cooking, showcasing sustainably sourced meat and fish from the British Isles. Cocktails include inventive recipes using house-infused spirits displayed in colourful glass carafes on the bar.
Do Not Disturb (DND)
Hidden away beneath the hotel is DND, a discreet, sophisticated speakeasy cocktail bar taking inspiration from the clandestine bars of 1920s New York with hand-beaded images of Ziegfeld Follies girls line the walls, beckoning guests into this secret bar through a darkened entrance tucked back on Garlick Hill.
Guests can enjoy speciality barrel-aged and house cocktails alongside a New York-inspired menu of small plates, tacos and sliders while relaxing on plush velvet chairs and leather banquette seating.
HOTEL SPACES
Vintry & Mercer will have spaces for guests and visitors, including a breakout area with computers and 3 private event spaces – The Music Room, The Library and The Drawing Room – that will be perfect for hosting events from business meetings to private dinners. Capacities range from an intimate 10 seated in The Music Room, to up to 35 standing in The Library. The Library and The Drawing Room are interconnecting, allowing for a maximum of 55 guests standing. All event spaces will be equipped with a TV/screen. The hotel will also boast a gym kitted out with the latest equipment from Life Fitness, an integrated digital screen, free internet access and iPhone docks.
ENVIRONMENT
In the heart of a busy working city, the site of the hotel at the formation of the Vinters and Mercers’ guilds would have been a stone’s throw from vast countryside. As a nod to this, Vintry & Mercer will bring nature into the hotel with vibrant plants along with green colour accents to promote a feeling of calm.
Vintry & Mercer is also committed to ensuring it is eco-friendly and will be running on 100 per cent renewable electricity, sourced from wind, solar and biomass generators. It will also use solar panelling, heat pump technology in our air-conditioning system, and a ‘Combined Heating and Power’ system to minimise environmental output.
Vintry & Mercer is opening 4 February 2019 and is brought to you by the team behind South Kensington’s The Ampersand Hotel and is an independent hotel part of Small Luxury Hotels of the WorldTM, a collection of over 500 hotels in more than 80 countries.
